Lily is 29 months old today! She is growing like crazy and it is still exciting to me how much she is changing from month to month. She is so so so cute and she just makes my heart smile, even on her (and my) rough days. What a joyful girl!
At 29 months old Lily is:
Grasping the concept of introducing herself to people. She loves to introduce herself to people who are running the cash registers at the stores we go to. Often they will say hi to her and she will say, "Hi! I'm Lily! This is my Mommy! That's my Quinny Quinn!" Yesterday at Yogurtland she changed up the script to, "Hi! I'm Lily! That's my daughter, Quinny." :)
Recognizing there is a difference between boys and girls, but she mostly thinks it has to do with hair length. We saw a woman with short hair the other day and Lily kept asking what "he" was doing. I promptly shushed her. Ha!
Repeating herself all.the.time. She loves the sound of her own voice and she's not old enough for a blog yet (ha!) so she resorts to saying the same things over and over again. Most recently it has been "I want Mama" or "Mama, I want you!" or most frequently "Maaaaammmaaaaa I waaaaannntttttt yyyoooooouuuu!" (Did you get it? That is Lily whining.) She'll say this at the first hint that she might be in trouble in an attempt to avoid the looming discipline. At first it actually worked because I am a sap and thought she really just wanted me and missed me because since Quinn was born we can't give her as much attention as we used to. She couldn't have know it, but she totally played into my Mommy guilt. Now, however, I'm onto her and her mini-manipulation. :)
Still completely and totally in love with Quinn. She loves looking at her and asks to touch her all the time. She HAS to kiss her goodnight and always talks about how "cute and silly" Quinny is. She is SUCH a good big sister!
Quite the singer and has started making up her own songs, some of which are quite hilarious and most of which are incomprehensible to us.
Asking to talk about God and Jesus a lot. She always asks me to talk about what happens if we do bad things (it makes God sad) and what happens if we do good things (it makes God happy.) The other day she came to me and said "Mommy! I need you to protect me!" and when I asked what she needed protection from she said "God and Jesus! They are going to get me!" OOOPS! Perhaps I have been stressing the justice/punishing side of God a little too much and need to focus more on God's grace in my discussions with Lily. Parenting fail!
Becoming quite the artist. She loves to color and uses her "Grandma Dana crayons" every single day. Her favorite thing is to dump all 96 crayons (well, really there are about 120 pieces now since she also loves to break said crayons) onto the floor and mix them up before using them to color in her coloring books. Shockingly, she does not enjoy putting the crayons away.
Really enjoying the Winnie the Pooh movies we got for her. She loves Pooh, Piglet, and Tigger the most and frequently asks us to sing the "Quinny the Pooh song" even though we only know one line of it. That one line really satisfies her though, so it works out.
Loving apple jacks, the cereal. She calls them "chump chumps" for some completely unknown reason and frequently says that they are her "favorite snack." Pretty much whatever snack she is having at the time is her "favorite snack" but chump chumps have really had some staying power.
Very sensitive to loud noises. This is a fairly recent development for her so we're hoping it's temporary. The list of noises that scare her include: the toilet flushing, the vacuum, the trash truck, motorcycles, Chris or I calling to each other from another room, and car alarms. She's a sensitive girl.
Even though this month has been a little more challenging than most because Lily has had some off days with lots of tears and tantrums, she still remains a very easy going and pleasant child. We are thankful for her energy, her enthusiasm, her sweetness, and her own unique personality. We love her so incredibly much!
